Slack week again (nothing has really changed for the past 2 months!!!). Surprisingly I did pull up a little stiff from last Sunday's half marathon. Did not run Monday or Tuesday for a number of reasons and the weather played a big part in that too!.
Wednesday I did a great session on the treadmill at the gym (so cold and dark at night now) which included 8 x 800m efforts with 200m walk breaks. Friday was a quickish 7km around Williamstown after waking up at 5am then not going back to sleep until 6:30am. Woke up at 8am and rushed out the door to get in a quick run before having to be at a trade show for work by 9:30am. Saturday was a lovely 8k - 40 minute run at marathon pace (or what I am planning to do until I crash!) on a gorgeous cold crisp Melbourne morning. Today I did a steady 16k around Williamstown in the afternoon but it did get pretty cold after 5:00pm.

Run to the G
I ran the Half in what I would consider to be perfect running conditions (it is pity my running is far from perfect!!)
Started out ok and settled into a pretty steady pace for the first 12k. The first 2k in 10:02 were somewhat crowded so I was pleased to go through 12k in 58.30. I wanted to run just under 100 minutes for 21k and felt that I came home really well and seemed to be continuously passing runners for most of the next 9k.
I missed my goal time by a minute and finished with 1:40:44 (by my watch). That's a PB for me for a Half. Some people have posted that the course was anywhere from 200 to 500 metres long. Whatever!

So underdone
I can't believe I am actually planning on running a marathon in just over two weeks time so underdone. Funny thing is that that I am not really stressed about it and don't really care what time it takes me.
Really looking forward to 3 days off on the Gold Coast though. If I can I would love to take the eldest son up with me for some R&R

3 weeks to GC Marathon
Sunday's long run was a lovely one with a bunch of CRs around Capital City Trail. I was joined by Tiger Boy, Eat Em, Azza, Livinia G & Virginia (?) which made the time fly by. Tiger Boy and I did a lap of the Tan to finish. For me that was a good 34k run. Tiger Boy looks in fantastic shape. I am sure he will kill his marathon time at Gold Coast. He has a fairly conservative goal but I reckon he can go closer to 3:10 or less.
Monday & Tuesday I didn't get out at all. Not for any particular reason, just couldn't find the time in between kids, work and home. Today I went out for a run at lunchtime in the streets around Burwood and Camberwell which turned out to be a run with quite a few hills for just over an hour (in the rain!). Kept up a pretty good pace too.
My food intake is appalling. Some days I eat well and other days I feel fat so I don't eat. I need to plan my food during the day better so that I don't stuff myself at dinner.

4 weeks to GC Marathon
This seems to be turning into a weekly blog. There aren't enough hours in the day to do everything!
Last week was a good running week for me.
- Started early on Monday morning making up for the 1/2 marathon I didn't do on Sunday.
- Tuesday night saw a hard but good Tempo session on the treadmill at the gym: 10 minutes easy pace then every 5 minutes I increase the speed by .5km for 50 minutes with the final 10 minutes back where I started.
- Wednesday was an average run around the Tan. I hate the cold.
- Thursday I can't remember!
- Friday morning was cold, dark and wet so I chickened it and headed to the treadmill at the gym again. After 10 minutes easy running I did 6 x 1200 metre efforts at 4:15 pace with 300 metres walking in between. The first few felt like I should have been going a bit harder and it wasn't until the last two efforts that I really started working (and I increased the speed too). I will do that one again this week a bit faster and will have more time to add at least two more reps.
Saturday night I slept like I haven't done in over a year. I went to bed around 9:30pm and turned off the 6:15am alarm. Then slept through the next alarm at 8:00am and did not wake up until 9:00am. I lay in bed for another 1/2 hour before finally getting up. God it felt good. That meant that I totally screwed up my Sunday long run but I really didn't care!
So on Sunday I went out at 11:30am and ran a good 21km with a solid 4km effort at 4:30 pace at the end. Then at 4:00pm I went out again and did another 14km at 5:00 pace. I felt like I could have kept running for another 1/2 hour at least. Yes the legs were tight and getting a bit sore, but I had no inkling to stop and my breathing was steady and even. 35km all up in just on 3 hours with some good pace running in the mix. I don't think my Gold Coast Marathon chances are totally dead.
